Asking customers for a review

Last updated August 21, 2026

Word of mouth is how a lake business grows, and the best moment to ask is the day the work is done. Paste two links once and every email asks for you.

Nobody on a lake picks a dock company from an ad. They ask the neighbor, and increasingly the neighbor is a Google listing with forty reviews. The best time to ask for one is the day the lift goes in and the customer is looking at it — which is exactly when LakeOps is already emailing them.

Setting it up

Under Settings → Account, the Reviews panel takes two links and a switch:

  • Google. In your Google Business Profile, choose Ask for reviews. It gives you a short link that opens the review box directly. Paste that.
  • Facebook. Your Page's Reviews tab — the address usually ends in /reviews.

Fill in one or both, turn on Ask customers for a review, and save. The switch will not turn on with no links behind it, and a link that is not a full web address is refused on save rather than discovered in a customer's reply.

What the customer sees

Every customer email — the completion, a progress note, a quote, a statement, a receipt — ends with one line: Happy with the work? A few words from you help more than you'd think. The link opens a short page on lakeops.io with your company's name, a sentence of thanks, and a button for each network you filled in. Both open in a new tab.

The one email that never asks is the declined-card notice. Nobody is invited to review you by the message telling them their payment failed.

Turning it off

Switch it off and the line disappears from the next email sent. Links already in a customer's inbox go to a page that says the company is not collecting reviews this way right now and points them back to you.
